Exclusivity at the heart of Crossrail objectives
Major players
As a major transport infrastructure project Crossrail supports the wider transport, planning, social and environmental objectives of the government's ten year plan, the Mayors strategies for London and the DfT's strategic plan.
Crossrail's key objectives are
- Support the development and regeneration of London as a world city, and its role as the financial centre of Europe and the UK
- Tackle congestion and the lack of capacity on the existing rail network
- Improve access into and around London for all sections of the community.
It is the third of these objectives that drives the Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA).
Creating precedent
The first of it's kind for a major transport project the Crossrail EqIA provides the initial results from consultation with priority groups that may be affected by either the construction of Crossrail or access to the services that it will provide.
Produced and available in different formats the Crossrail EqIA has set the agenda for equality assessment for all future projects in the UK.
